Creating a Subscription from a Transaction
You can create a subscription from an opportunity, estimate, or sales order after setting up the billing account and plan.
-
When converting an opportunity to an estimate, the subscription carries over to the estimate.
-
When converting an estimate to a sales order, the subscription carries over to the sales order.
You can create a subscription from a transaction, using one of two approaches:
-
Add a saved subscription to the transaction to send the sales transaction to the customer.
-
Create a new sales transaction to synchronize it with sales or move lines to Pending Activation status.
To create a subscription from a transaction:
-
On the transaction record, choose the customer.
Tip:Use the Quick Search or Recent Records portlet to find the customer record.
-
Fill in required fields based on the transaction type.
-
From Items > Subscription, choose a subscription to add or choose New to create a new one.
Tip:Choose an existing subscription to add if sending the sales transaction to the customer. Choose New if using the transaction to synchronize with sales or move lines to Pending Activation. See Updating a Subscription on a Transaction and Activating a Subscription.
Note:Only draft subscriptions can be added to sales transactions.
-
If using an existing subscription, click Save.
-
If creating a new subscription:
-
Enter the Subscription Name.
-
From the Billing Account list, choose the billing account.
Note:For accurate data, choose the Billing Account, Customer, or Subsidiary before choosing the subscription plan and price book.
-
Choose the subscription plan from the Subscription Plan list, or choose New to create a new one.
Note:You don't need a subscription plan or price book for creating a subscription with the standard form. You can use only add-on item lines to simplify creating a subscription. To create a subscription without a subscription plan or price book, see Optional Subscription Plan and Price Book.
-
Optionally, from the subscription Renewal subtab, define the renewal and default percentage uplift to apply to the original subscription. See Adding Renewal Information to Subscription Plans to learn how the subscription default populates the renewal.
-
From the Initial Term list, choose the subscription's first term.
-
Enter or choose the Start Date.
-
-
-
Click Add to add the subscription to the transaction.
-
Click Save.
If you checked the Setting Optional Preferences preference, approve the sales order.
All subscription lines automatically move to Pending Activation.
