Secure Domains

When a user browses a website, the browser and the site send data back and forth using a secure protocol called HTTPS.

Secure domains use HTTPS, the secure version of hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP). With HTTPS, all communication between a browser and a website is encrypted. HTTPS is the industry standard for ecommerce, and shoppers like seeing the secure icon in their browser. Including secure technology in your web store lets your customers know their activities are safe. Search engines also tend to rank secure sites higher than non-secure ones. Running your web store under a secure domain is one way to boost your SEO.

NetSuite doesn't support non-secure domains. See Secure Your Domain for information about securing your domain.

For a domain to use HTTPS, its encryption process needs to be certified. You do this by buying an SSL certificate from a certificate authority. This digital certificate contains the files that encrypt information sent between a website and a browser. See Overview of SSL Encryption for information about how SSL encryption works.

In NetSuite, all domain types can be secured using an SSL certificate. You can use a certificate from Oracle NetSuite or obtain your own from an authorized certificate authority. For details, see Types of Secure Domains in NetSuite and Automatic and Manual Certificates.
