Segments

Classifications help identify and categorize NetSuite records, making it easier to organize and manage your data. Custom segments let you to create custom classifications like the class, department, and location classifications provided by NetSuite. You can use custom segments as search filters and columns in NetSuite reports. If a custom segment is configured for GL impact, it can be displayed on the GL Impact page.

For instance, you might need to classify records by profit center. You can create a custom segment called Profit Center and use it to sort and search your data.
