Operating System and Software Management

The following features, enhancements, and changes related to the OS and software management are introduced in this Oracle Linux 9 release.

systemd Core Management Update

In /etc/systemd/system.conf, the default value for the DefaultLimitCore option has changed. The default value is now unlimited:unlimited, which specifies that core dump file sizes are unlimited. This value was 0:infinity in previous releases, which meant that core dumps were disabled.

The following defaults for systemd-coredump storage have also changed:

  • In /etc/systemd/coredump.conf, the default size specified for core dumps is 1GiB.

  • Core dumps are deleted after 14 days.
