Create the coding context items

Create questions to capture the Route of Administration and Indication, often referred to as context items.

The Route of Administration captures the method of delivery for a drug, for example, orally, and the Indication defines why it was taken, for example, for migraine. Follow the steps below to create each.

  1. Open the form, select Add, choose the Text option, and then enter Route of Administration or Indication for the question title.

    Tip:

For Route of Administration, requiring all users to select from a common list ensures the highest autocoding percentage in Oracle Central Coding. For optimal results, create a single-select drop-down question with a custom code list. For more information, see Create a drop-down question and Create a custom code list.
If you include Other as an option in your code list that allows users to enter text, you must:
    • Create a dynamic text question that appears when Other is selected, so users can enter a value. For more information, see Set up a dynamic question in a form and Define a Show Question rule.
    • Create a read-only text question, for example, Mapped Route.

After you move the study version to the Test container, add a calculation rule to map the value selected from the drop-down or the text value entered when Other is chosen to the read-only question. For more information, see Central coding mapping rule.

  2. For Route of Administration and Indication text questions, set the Character Limit, under the Details sidebar, to 200 and then configure any other relevant settings.
  3. Expand the Advanced sidebar, select Add Property, and then choose the Coding Question option.
The Dictionary and Tag for Central Coding settings are populated with the values defined for the verbatim term question; do not change these. For more information about these settings and the Coding Item Type setting, see Details about the Coding Question settings on the Advanced sidebar.
  4. Select Route of Administration or Indication from the Coding Item Type dropdown.

    Note:

If you’re using a single-select drop-down question with a custom code list, as defined above, you should map the read-only text question that was created to the Route of Administration option in the Coding Item Type drop-down and not the single-select one.
  5. For a single-select Route of Administration question, expand the Rules sidebar and select Add Rule, then Create Validation, followed by Select Exactly. Leaving this set at 1 restricts a user to selecting only one option from the list.
  6. Select Save, then select Add to create additional context item questions.
