Create incidents and send notifications
You may have separate notification requirements for the events and incidents on your primary and standby databases. To send the separate notifications, first create separate primary and standby groups , set up your desired notification methods or connectors and create Incident Rules to send notifications on the separate primary and standby groups.
For example, let's say you want to open ServiceNow tickets for EM incidents on the primary databases and send Slack messages for EM incidents on the standby databases.
To do this:
- Create Groups for your Primary and Standby Databases (see Create groups for your Primary and Standby databases).
- Set up the ServiceNow Connector in EM
- Set up the Slack Notification Method
- Then create two separate Incident Rule sets:
- Create incident Rule Set #1 for the Primary group:
- Targets: Primary Group
- Event Rule:
- Select Events (e.g., Target Availability, Metric Alerts)
- Add Actions:
- Create incidents from events
- Use Event Compression Policies
- Create incidents from events
- Incident Rule:
- Select Incidents:
- "Specific Incidents" > "Rules that created the incidents" > Select your event rule that was created
- Add Actions:
- Create ticket > Select ServiceNow ticket template
- Select Incidents:
- Create incident Rule Set #2 for the Standby group
- Targets: Standby Group
- Event Rule:

- Add Actions:
- Create incidents from events
- Use Event Compression Policies

- Create incident Rule Set #1 for the Primary group:
Note:
If you are already using Administration Groups and have different Administration Groups for your primary and standby databases, then you can use these Administration Groups in your Incident Rule Sets. Otherwise, if your primary and standby databases are already in the same Administration Group, then you can create new Dynamic Groups based on the High Availability Role target property (see Create groups for your Primary and Standby databases) and complete the rest of these steps using the new Dynamic Groups.
