Manage alert thresholds
Use Administration Groups to automatically apply the appropriate metric alert threshold settings to your primary and standby databases when there are role changes. Administration Groups work with Monitoring Templates / Template Collections to apply alert threshold settings to targets when they join a group. You can choose to put Primary and Standby databases in the same administration group or different administration groups.
Option 1: Primary and Standby databases are in DIFFERENT Administration Groups
If you need your primary and standby databases in different Administration Groups because they have different metric threshold settings:
- Create Groups for your Primary and Standby Databases (see Create groups for your Primary and Standby databases).
- Create a Monitoring Template with metrics thresholds for the primary databases
- Create a separate Monitoring Template with metrics thresholds for the standby databases
- Create a Template Collection and include the Monitoring Template you created for the primary databases
- Create a separate Template Collection and include the Monitoring Template you created for the standby databases
- Associate the primary Template Collection with the Administration Group for primary databases
- Associate the standby Template Collection with the Administration Group for standby databases
EM will automatically apply the appropriate metric thresholds to the primary and standby databases in the separate Administration Groups once they join the group.
During database role change, EM automatically puts the new primary and new standby database in their new appropriate groups and the associated monitoring templates are applied accordingly. So the new primary will have the primary metric threshold settings applied and the new standby will have the standby metric thresholds applied.
Option 2: Primary and Standby databases are in the SAME Administration Groups
If you need your primary and standby databases in the same Administration Groups because they have the same metric threshold settings (aside from the role specific metrics):
- Add primary and standby databases to the same Administration Group by assigning them the same target property value and using the target property as membership criteria for the Administration Group hierarchy
- Create one Monitoring Template with metrics thresholds for both the primary and standby databases
- Create a Template Collection and include the Monitoring Template you created
- Associate the Template Collection with the Administration Group that contains both the primary and standby databases
EM will automatically determine the appropriate metrics to apply to the databases in the same Administration Group based on the database role.
During database role change, EM still automatically applies the appropriate metrics to the databases in the Administration Group based on their new database role.
