Setting Up Nexuses in SuiteTax Engine

To determine the correct tax jurisdiction and tax rate on transactions, your subsidiaries must be associated with the appropriate nexuses. Each of your tax jurisdictions must have a nexus record.

Note:

To ensure that the provisioning for the Canada province nexus works properly, please set the Canada nexus as parent when creating a Canada province nexus.

Setting Up the Puerto Rico and Guam Nexuses

For these US territories, first create a nexus with "United States" selected in the Country field and "Puerto Rico" or "Guam" filled in the State field. For more information about creating nexuses, see Setting Up Nexuses in SuiteTax. For Guam, you should also first create it as a new state/province/county with the "United States" selected as a country. For more information, see the procedure below.

Note:

Please ensure that you do not select these territories in the Country field. This is important for the correct tax calculation for these US territories.

To create the Guam State/Province/County:

  1. Go to Setup > Company > States/Provincies/Counties > New.

  2. In the Country field, select "United States".

  3. In the Full Name field, enter "Guam".

  4. In the Short Name field, enter "GU" for Guam.

Then, you should assign these nexuses to the related subsidiaries. For more information about assigning nexuses to subsidiaries, see Assigning Tax Registrations to a Subsidiary in SuiteTax.

For information about subnexuses, see Understanding Subnexuses in SuiteTax.
