Understanding Legend Colors

The color of the task bar indicates the current status of an operation as seen in its operation task record. The bar reflects any status changes made on the record, actively fetching this information based on the provided work order and task statuses. The legend bar provides the color code indication for the different type of statuses. The following table describes which color represent which operation status.

Color

Definition

Green (Operation Assigned)

Summary bar color that indicates an assigned operation.

Red (Conflict)

Summary bar color that indicates one or more operations with overlapping schedules.

Yellow (Not Started)

Task bar color that indicates a operation has not started, but the work order status can be In Process or Released.

Blue (Completed)

Task bar color that indicates a operation's percentage of completion.

Orange (Planned-Not Started)

Task bar color that indicates a operation has not started, but the work order status can be Planned.

Gray (Non-Working Day)

Column color that indicates a non-working day.

Operation Conflicts

In the Work Center view, the summary bar displays all the operations assigned to a work center. The summary bar can display an operation conflict in red, if two or more overlapping operations exceed the total working hours per day. By looking at the red summary bar, you can analyze and reschedule or move the work orders to another work center and balance the operations.

On the chart, you can adjust the schedule of an operation, or reassign it to another work center to resolve an operation conflict.

Manage Operation Conflicts

By looking at the summary bar of a work center, you can check for overlapping operations, indicating that a work center is over-utilized. In this case, you can schedule a work order to a later date, or assign it to another resource. You can perform any of the following changes to an operation:

Note:

You can update operations directly on the chart only when you are in the Work Center view. Use the operation view filters to limit the view to specific work centers where the reassignment or rescheduling are going to be performed.

Reassigning Operations

To reassign an operation, drag the task bar upward or downward within the same column, toward the new work center. The reassigned operation retains all its details, except for the new work center number.

Note:

You cannot reassign an operation to an inactive work center, or one that belongs to a different subsidiary.

Forward Scheduling Operation

To perform forward scheduling on the chart, change the start date of the first operation in the work order. This applies to work orders set to the Forward scheduling method. For more information about scheduling methods, see Production Scheduling Methods Overview.

To initiate forward scheduling, switch your chart to the Work Center view. Identify the first operation within a work order by locating the sequence number next to the work order number, indicating the initial operation in the process. For rescheduling, drag the task bar horizontally to the desired date, either left or right from the original start date, and release it when the new start date appears.

Note:

Select the appropriate time period option to locate a new date on a different week or month. Use the previous and next date range arrows to adjust the dates in the view.

After you move the date of the first operation, NetSuite automatically adjusts the schedules of the succeeding operations. Switch to the Work Order view to review the new schedule of operations within the work order. NetSuite applies the changes made on the chart to the work order and operation task records.

Backward Scheduling Operation

Backward scheduling on the chart applies to work orders set to the Backward scheduling method. To perform backward scheduling, move the end date of the last operation in the work order. Changes to the schedule appear on the corresponding work order and operation task records. For more information about scheduling methods, see Production Scheduling Methods Overview.

To start backward scheduling, set your chart to the Work Center view by clicking its link located above the chart header. On the left pane, look for the last operation of the work order to be rescheduled. On the chart, drag and drop the task bar of the last operation to the new date.

  • Drag to the right of the current date to move the schedule to a later date.

  • Drag to the left of the current date to move the schedule to an earlier date.

When the last operation task bar has a new date, NetSuite automatically adjusts the preceding operations to accommodate the new schedule. You can review the new operation schedules by switching to the Work Order view.

Updating Manufacturing Operation Records

You can update a manufacturing operation record, but after you change an operation to In Progress status, you cannot edit its details. To view the manufacturing record, double-click its corresponding task bar on the chart.

You can edit the following details on the manufacturing record:

  • Setup Time

  • Run Time

  • Work Center

  • Machine Resources

  • Labor Resources

After you change a record, any adjustments made to the time or date, automatically appear on any dependent fields. For more information about editing the operation details, see Manufacturing Operation Task.
