Field Service Asset Records
Field Service Management assets are custom records associated with customers. An asset can represent a site, location, physical machine, or component that requires installation, service, repair, or maintenance.
Field service asset records can be created manually, CSV import, and automatic creation from item fulfillment.
The standard asset types are Site, Machine, and Component. You can customize asset types for your account and use them to control FSM behavior. Choose an asset structure that matches your service model:
-
Site - Represents the customer's physical service location. A site is typically the parent asset and contains the full service address.
-
Machine - Represents a serviceable unit at the site, such as a generator, HVAC unit, or pump.
-
Component - Represents a part of a machine that you can maintain or replace.
Create the parent site first. Then, create child assets from the parent asset record. FSM automatically establishes the parent relationship. Depending on your configuration, inheritance rules can copy customer, address, region, coordinates, and other common data to the child asset.
Before you save the child asset, verify the inherited values. Avoid entering values again if they are already inherited.
Asset Address
An asset's address does more than identify its location. FSM uses the address to populate the task address, latitude, longitude, and time zone. Mobile and the Schedule Board use this information.
-
The asset Address Select field uses addresses from the selected customer's address book.
-
You can use Address Search to populate the asset address.
-
A valid, complete address provides the latitude and longitude. FSM determines the time zone from these coordinates.
-
When you create a task from an asset, FSM uses the asset address as the task's service location.
-
Mobile can use the task address to provide directions. Maps display the task or asset location.
Verify the coordinates, especially for imported records. Invalid latitude or longitude values can affect map functionality in Mobile and the Schedule Board. Do not use a technician's device location as the permanent service site address.
