How is net sales calculated?
The Net Sales Items fact provides a comprehensive picture of the sales items and adjusted returns. Transactions that are considered for Item Sales consist of sales order, customer invoice, and cash sales. Returns transactions that are considered consist of sales return and cash refund. The Net Sales Items fact has a compound grain consisting of Transaction identifier, Item identifier, and Accounting Book identifier. It also contains additional calculated information such as origin of the transaction in the form of type of transaction (sales order, customer invoice, and cash sales), the actual sales quantity after adjusting for returns, and whether the entry is adjusted for returns (flag attribute).
What are the transaction types covered in the Net Sales Items fact?
Regardless of whether there are multiple linked transactions for the same sales, the Net Sales Items fact holds just one entry for each item sales; the starting transaction and its quintessential information. In case of the item sales starting with Sales Order transaction, the quintessential information of this sale is from Sales Order transaction only. In case of the sales with no sales order, but started with an Invoice or a Cash Sale, then the quintessential information of this entry is Invoice transaction or Cash Sale transaction.
