Common Report Authoring Tips
Improve all of your Oracle NetSuite Analytics Warehouse reports with these recommendations and answers to frequently asked questions regarding reporting. The information isn’t exhaustive and is updated regularly with additional information and authoring tips.
Tips for Filters
When applying filters to reports, follow these guidelines:
- Use dashboard filters instead of workbook or canvas filters for user interactions in analyses.
- Use workbook filters for hidden and non-interaction filters.
- Set the Limit by Values to None for all filters in custom workbooks or dashboards to improve performance of prompts.
- When applying a filter on an attribute, use a Code column (when available) instead of a Name or Description column.
- Always apply the necessary filters first before you start building visualizations to ensure optimal queries are created when you add the metrics required in the visualization.
Tips for Brushing
Disable brushing to improve report performance. See Update Canvas Properties.
Tips for Working with Currency
To display the currency format for currency amounts, set the number format in each visualization as a custom currency. Then in the subject area folder, select the currency column. See Set Currency Symbols for Visualizations.
Tips for Reporting on Attributes Across Multiple Dimensions
When reporting on attributes against multiple dimensions, always use a measure in the report. In subject areas with more than one fact, the measure sets the correct context in the query, builds an accurate navigational path, and returns the expected results. If you don’t want the measure to show in the report, hide it. See Hide or Delete a Column.
Tips for Presentation Hierarchies
To improve performance, use presentation columns instead of presentation hierarchies. See Work with Presentation Tables and Columns.
Report Authoring Tips for Oracle NetSuite Analytics Warehouse
This section provides information about commonly encountered use cases and frequently asked questions regarding Oracle NetSuite Analytics Warehouse reporting. The information isn’t exhaustive and is updated regularly with additional information and authoring tips.
General Tips for Reporting on Oracle NetSuite Analytics Warehouse
- Only non-serialized inventory is supported in prebuilt dashboards.
- You can add custom columns from Transaction Line Fields but not Transaction Item Options.
Tips for Reporting on Subsidiary
Oracle NetSuite Analytics Warehouse automatically filters data to include the configured reporting subsidiary and all child subsidiaries. You can further filter data to include a single subsidiary.
Tips for Reporting on Analytics Currency
In most cases, a set of defined analytics currency, or reporting currency, metrics convert from the subsidiary base currency on the transaction to the reporting subsidiary’s base currency. These metrics are calculated using the Consolidated Exchange Rates table in NetSuite. In cases where the Consolidated Exchange Rates isn’t used or hasn’t been setup correctly, the metrics default to the base currency metrics. Metrics can be calculated using the Current, Average, Historical exchange rate, or per Account.
Tips for Reporting on Exchange Rate Type
Analytics Currency metrics are calculated using Current, Average, Historical exchange rates, or per Account. To prevent amounts that are 4 times the expected amount, always add an Exchange Rate Type filter to all analyses and workbooks when using Analytics Currency metrics.
Tips for Reporting on Multi-Book Accounting
When multi-book accounting is enabled, the grain of the line-level transaction tables is at the accounting book level. Add an Accounting Book filter to all analyses and workbooks containing line-level data when multi-book accounting has been enabled in NetSuite.
Tips for Reporting on Budget and Inventory Insights
These subject areas don't have a standard time dimension so useing the Accounting Period filter is required.
