Dataset Support and Limitations for Contextual Insights
This topic describes the datasets supported for Contextual Insights and the existing limitations.
- Multidimensional data sources - Contextual Insights aren't supported for multidimensional sources such as Essbase, Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service, and Analytic Views.
- Multi-table datasets - You can use multi-table datasets if you set the Preserve Grain option on the Fact Table in the model. Setting this option indicates which table acts as the fact table when multiple tables are joined in a model. Set the Preserve Grain option by right-clicking the table in the data model.
- Hierarchical columns - Attributes added as related columns that have a hierarchical relationship with an attribute in your visualization are filtered out by the Contextual Insights algorithm. In some cases, the algorithm may not be able to detect this relationship and this could lead to trivial insights showing empty visualizations.
- Related columns for subject areas - For visualizations using data from a subject area, if you've added related columns but are unable to see any contextual insights, you can reduce the number of related columns to less than six and retry.
- Language - Contextual Insights display text descriptions of insights and calculations in English.
