2.1.6 Improved Free Space Management in Exascale

Oracle Exadata System Software release 25.1.0 introduces improvements in the internal space management algorithms for Exascale storage pools. With these enhancements, administrators need to maintain significantly less free space to perform an automatic data rebalance operation after the failure of a main storage device.

For example, when an Exascale storage pool occupies three High Capacity (HC) storage servers (each with 12 disks), the amount of free space that should be maintained to successfully rebalance a storage pool after losing one disk is 12%.

Furthermore, less free space must be maintained as more storage servers are used. When an Exascale storage pool occupies nine or more HC storage servers, the free space that should be maintained drops to only 3%.
