Process for Creating Outlines

The high-level workflow for managing your Essbase outline is explained here. An outline is created automatically when you create the database. You can add and remove dimensions and members, and change the properties, which help you manage consolidation, storage, and category relationships.

  1. Create a database. The new database automatically contains a blank outline.
  2. Open the outline.
  3. Add dimensions and members to the outline.
  4. Set each dimension as dense or sparse.
  5. Position dimensions and members in the outline.
  6. Set dimension and member properties.
  7. If necessary, create attribute dimensions and associate them with the appropriate base dimensions.
  8. Verify and save the outline.
