Redwood: Control Goal Actions Based on Role
As administrators you can now configure business rules in Visual Builder Studio to control the goal actions that are visible for certain roles. This table lists the actions that you can configure.
| Goal Type | Action That Can Be Configured |
|---|---|
| Performance | Share, Align, Copy, Extend, Move, Cancel, Delete, Request Feedback |
| Development | Share, Copy, Delete |
After you configure this, if the action is hidden for employees, then managers and HR specialists won’t be able to perform the action on their own goals. For example, if you hide the Align action of performance goals only for the Employee role, then a line manager or HR specialist can’t align their own performance goals in their Goals Center. But they can align the goals of a team member or their organization member.
Business Benefit
Ensure that the actions permitted for performance and development goals are in line with your organization’s security policies and enhance the security of your organization’s Goal Management data.
Steps to enable and configure
To enable Redwood Goals Center, you need to enable the profile options indicated in the table.

NOTE: The Performance Document, Check-in, and Goals Center features are closely connected. So, the Redwood version of these pages can all be enabled or disabled only using the common ORA_HRA_PERFORMANCE_DOCUMENTS_AND_GOALS_REDWOOD_ENABLED profile option. These features can't be enabled individually.
For more information, see How do I enable a profile option?.
For information about the privileges that need to be granted to the role of employees, managers, and HR specialists to allow to perform the action, see Privileges to Secure Goal Actions.

Rule for Hiding Align Action for Employees
To hide specific goal actions for development goals:
- Edit the My Goals page in Visual Builder Studio.
- Select Configure Fields and Regions.
- Create a form rule.
- Add a conditional expression to include the role for which you want to hide the actions.
- Expand the Development Goals region > Development Goals Actions section.
- For the actions that you want to hide, set the Hidden property to Hidden.
Tips and considerations
- The goal action privileges assigned to the user role determine if the user can perform the action or not. If the user role isn’t granted the privilege to perform the action, then the configuration rule setting is ignored. For example if the Share action is configured to be visible for employees for performance goals but employees aren’t assigned the privilege to share performance goals, then the configuration setting is ignored and employees can’t use the Share action to share performance goals.
- If the privilege to perform the action is granted to the user role but the configuration setting hides the action, the user can’t perform the action. For example, if the Employee role is assigned the privilege to share performance goals, but if the Share action is configured to be hidden for employees for performance goals, then employees can’t use the Share action to share performance goals.
