Nexus and Tax Account Mapping on Journal Entries in SuiteTax
On journal transactions, you can specify the nexus, tax account, and tax code. When you save the journal transaction, the system looks at the tax type set on the tax code record, and tries to post the taxes to the tax account specified on the journal.
To successfully save the transaction and post the taxes, the following conditions must be met:
-
A tax agency is set on the nexus record, and
-
The tax account is set as a Payables Account or Receivables Account for the nexus on the tax type record.
If one of the said conditions is not met, the transaction will not be saved. Take note of the following possible errors and how to fix them.
-
If the transaction nexus has a tax agency set, but that nexus is not linked to the tax type with the specified tax account, you will get a nexus-tax account mapping error. You can fix the error by adding the nexus on the tax type record, and selecting the tax account specified on the transaction as a Payables Account or Receivables Account for the nexus.
-
If the transaction nexus does not have a tax agency set, the system tries to find the first parent nexus in its hierarchy with a tax agency set.
-
If no such nexus is found, you will get a missing tax agency error. You can fix the error by specifying a tax agency on the transaction nexus record.
-
If a parent nexus with a tax agency is found, but the nexus is not linked to the tax type with the specified tax account, you will get a nexus-tax account mapping error. You can fix the error by setting up the parent nexus and tax account mapping on the tax type record, or by specifying a tax agency on the transaction nexus record.
