Viewing Recurring Revenue Bridge Charts

Bridge charts are waterfall charts that show how recurring revenue changes from a starting balance to an ending balance based on key revenue drivers.

The chart breaks gains and losses into clear categories, helping you identify trends quickly. You can hover over chart elements to view amounts, drill down from bars to transaction details, and review supporting details in the table below the chart. Recurring Revenue Bridge Chart Key Components

The recurring revenue bridge chart includes the following key components:

  • Data sources - Subscriptions and billing information from NetSuite.

  • Visualization - A bridge chart showing changes in recurring revenue for the selected period.

  • Impact Categories - Revenue movement grouped into four main categories: new, upsell, downsell, and churn. These categories highlight the drivers of growth or loss. For more information, see Category and Duration Field Behavior by Metric.

  • Impact Subcategories - Detailed breakdowns such as new customer, item removal, price decrease, quantity decrease, and customer churn. These subcategories clarify the reasons for revenue change. For more information, see Category and Duration Field Behavior by Metric.

  • Filters - Metric (ARR, MRR, CARR, CMRR), subsidiary, customer, item, department, class, and location.

  • Reporting periods - Monthly, quarterly, or yearly periods with start and end dates for analysis.

Category and Duration Field Behavior by Metric

The Category field values change based on the metric you select.

When you select Impact Category or Impact Subcategory in the Category field, the following happens:

  • In the Duration field, you can select Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly.

  • You can also select the start and end period for the selected duration.

When you select metric-specific category such as

Impact Category - ARR to CARR or Impact Subcategory - MRR to CMRR, the following happens:

  • The Duration field defaults to the last completed month and becomes unavailable.

  • The Period field becomes available to select the month to view.

  • The Start Period and End Period fields becomes unavailable.

Key Terms and Definitions

The following table lists the key terms and their definitions.

Definition

Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR)

The total predictable revenue generated from active subscriptions each month.

Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR)

The total predictable revenue generated from active subscriptions each year.

Committed Monthly Recurring Revenue (CMRR)

Monthly recurring revenue that is committed or contracted, including future-starting subscriptions in addition to currently active recurring revenue.

Committed Annual Recurring Revenue (CARR)

The annualized version of committed recurring revenue (CMRR), used to show committed recurring revenue on a yearly basis.

Starting Balance

The recurring revenue at the beginning of the selected period.

New

Revenue from new customers or contracts.

Upsell / Add-on

Additional revenue from existing customers upgrading or adding services.

Downsell / Item Removal

Revenue lost due to customers downgrading or removing services.

Churn / Customer Churn

Revenue lost from customers who cancel their subscriptions.

Ending Balance

The recurring revenue at the end of the selected period.

To view the recurring revenue bridge chart:

  1. Go to Subscription Metrics > Revenue Metrics > View.

  2. From the Metric filter, select a metric.

  3. (Optional) Apply filters to refine your results.

  4. Select the following for the duration or period you want to view.

    1. In the Category field, select a category.

    2. Based on the category you selected, select the following fields:

      1. Duration

      2. Period

      3. Start Period

      4. End Period

      The availability of these fields change based on the category you selected. For more information, see Category and Duration Field Behavior by Metric.

  5. View the summary report for your selected period.

  6. Click any amount, such as new sales or churn to see transaction-level details.

    You can export details to CSV for further analysis.
