Specifying Ancestor Position in Ad Hoc Grids

Use the Ancestor Position option to specify the ancestor position for hierarchies as Top or Bottom. The Ancestor Position option is located in the Member Options tab of the Options dialog.

Cloud data source types: Oracle Essbase, Planning Ad Hoc, Planning Modules Ad Hoc, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close Ad Hoc, FreeForm, Tax Reporting Ad Hoc

On-premises data source types: Oracle Hyperion Financial Management Ad Hoc, Oracle Hyperion Planning Ad Hoc

Note:

Essbase only: The ancestor position is set in the application by your Essbase administrator. By default, the ancestor position is set to Bottom. To set the ancestor position to Top, an administrator must set the application config setting, SSANCESTORONTOP, to True.

To specify the ancestor position for hierarchies in ad hoc grids:
  1. Connect to your database.

    For example, in Planning, you may connect to a cube or a form that is enabled for ad hoc. In Essbase, you connect to an application and database.

  2. In the Smart View ribbon, select Options, and then select Member Options.
  3. In Ancestor Position, select Top or Bottom.

    The default is Bottom.

  4. Click OK to close the Options dialog.
  5. Perform an ad hoc analysis by selecting the Ad hoc analysis option in the Action Panel.
  6. Perform a zoom-in on a dimension or member and check the result.

    For example:

    • If you select Top, the resulting hierarchy layout should resemble the layout shown in Figure 9-8.

    • If you select Bottom, the resulting hierarchy layout should resemble the layout shown in Figure 9-9.

  7. Continue ad hoc operations, such as zoom-in and pivoting.

Note:

  • Changing the Ancestor Position setting has no effect on the dimension and member layout in an existing grid. You will only see the change when you perform a zoom-in operation.

  • In an existing grid, or in the middle of a series of ad hoc analysis operations, changing Ancestor Position option (from Bottom to Top or from Top to Bottom) can result in non-uniform hierarchy display in the grid.

In this example, we zoom in on the Account dimension. After zooming in, the Account ancestor is shown at the top of its children members. Next, we zoom in on Statistics. After zooming in, the Statistics ancestor is shown at the top of its children members.

With the Ancestor on Top option selected, shows the result of zooming in on the Account dimension, then shows the result of zooming in on the Statistics member. In each case, the ancestor is at the top of the hierarchy, the children are listed below.

In this example, we zoom in on the Account dimension. After zooming in, the Account ancestor is shown at the bottom of its children members. Next, we zoom in on Statistics. After zooming in, the Statistics ancestor is shown at the bottom of its children members.

With the Ancestor on Bottom option selected, shows the result of zooming in on the Account dimension, then shows the result of zooming in on the Statistics member. In each case, the ancestor is at the bottom of the hierarchy, the children are listed above.
