Configure Complete or Partial Rollover of Allowance

Metered usage service consists of billing fees for a service based upon usage of output (such as copies or hours). You could configure the metered usage service pricing terms, which may include both an allowance (a minimum usage included in a base price) and an overage rate (the amount charged per unit of measurement (UOM) of usage quantity) for any usage quantity exceeding the provided allowance. It supports rolling over unused allowance to the next period.

You can now configure the metered usage service pricing terms to show whether unused allowance carries over to the next period if there has been partial usage in the current period.

This feature further improves configuring consumption-based pricing models to ensure correct calculation of metered usage service invoices.

Prior to Release 12.2.15, the unused allowance would always roll over to the next period even if it is partially used.

To configure usage pricing terms with rollover options:

  1. Create a contract and add assets
  2. Create a usage line
  3. Enter required attributes such as Usage Item, Price List, Base Reading Unit of Measure, and Frequency.
  4. Select Usage Type as Variable Rate.
  5. Select a Rollover option to indicate whether unused allowance or minimum carries over to the next period:
    • Partial Allowance: Allowance that is fully unused rolls over to the following period. If the allowance is partially used, then the remaining unused allowance rolls over to the following period.
    • Complete Allowance: Allowance that is fully unused rolls over to the following period. If any part of the allowance is partially used, then the remaining unused allowance does not roll over to the following period.
    • Minimum: Any unused minimum that the customer has paid for rolls over to the following period.
    • None: Unused allowance or unused minimum do not roll over to the following period.
