Target Discovery

Discover and add the target resources that must be available for lifecycle operations in Fleet Application Management.

After you create a fleet, the fleet's automatic discovery process starts, and you can select target resources and make them available for lifecycle operations. Based on the information that you provide during fleet creation, target discovery can succeed or fail. If discovery succeeds, you can confirm target resources if they're not confirmed during the fleet creation process. If discovery fails, you can retry target discovery and manually confirm the target resources.

Also, you can provide the logic for discovering product homes on the resources for custom products or Oracle-defined products by creating custom runbooks. See Creating a Runbook.

Important

When multiple fleets share the same resource and Fleet Application Management discovers the same product for the resource, the actual discovery occurs only once when run at the same time, even if they're part of several discovery requests.

After automatic discovery, you can scan the targets to see a report of missing patches. You can also export the fleet target information to verify their compliance status in Fleet Application Management. After you identify the missing patches, take the necessary actions to update the targets with the latest patches.

Important

If the Fleet Application Management plugin needed for lifecycle operations is disabled outside of Fleet Application Management, it leads to a failure in execution. For example, if either the Fleet Application Management plugin or the OS Management Hub plugin isn't enabled on a resource managed by Fleet Application Management, this results in an error.
