Administer Oracle WebCenter Spaces

As an Oracle Fusion Middleware administrator, you can perform the complete range of security-sensitive administrative duties for all Oracle WebCenter components, as well as all installation, configuration, and audit tasks. The Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control Console organizes a wide variety of performance data and administrative functions into distinct, web-based home pages. These home pages make it easy to locate the most important monitoring data and the most commonly used administrative functions for any WebCenter component: all from your web browser. Typical administration tasks performed through the Control Console include:

• Stop and start Oracle WebCenter Spaces.
  
  
• Configure back-end services to connect to mail servers, BPEL servers, a discussions server, presence server, Oracle Secure Enterprise Search, analytics collector, personalization server, the WebCenter repository database for Spaces events, links, lists, notes, people connections, and tags.
  
  
• Maintain external applications and datasources (such as content repositories, external applications, and portlet producers).
  
  
• Configure the identity store to allow for enterprise single sign-on.
  
  
• Configure global options, such as such as the Oracle SOA Suite hosting WebCenter Spaces workflows, Oracle SES search crawlers, and others .
  
  
• Import and export Spaces and Space templates, or an entire Oracle WebCenter Spaces application, to enable back up or to move content between Oracle WebCenter applications and stage or production environments.
  
  
• Use log files to identify and diagnose issues or problems.
  
  
• Analyze the performance of Oracle WebCenter Spaces and monitor its current status through Oracle Enterprise Manager.
  
  

Within Oracle WebCenter Spaces, the highest application privileges are given to the Oracle WebCenter Spaces administrator. To administer and monitor Oracle WebCenter Spaces, the Oracle WebCenter Spaces administrator can view and modify every aspect of the application, including:

• Modify application-wide settings: Customize WebCenter Spaces to suit the intended audience. Choose a name and logo for your application, apply a corporate brand, set language options, and much more.
  
  
• Manage users and roles: Assign roles and delegate responsibilities to other users. Create new roles to characterize groups of WebCenter users and determine what they can see and do in WebCenter Spaces. Allow users outside the WebCenter Spaces community to self-register.
  
  
• Manage personal pages: Encourage or enforce a consistent look and feel through default page schemes and default page templates. View, edit, and delete everyone's personal pages.
  
  
• Manage business role and system pages: Create and manage pages specific to a particular business role and roll out such pages to the target audience. Brand system pages, such as login and welcome pages, to suit the intended audience.
  
  
• Maintain portlet producers and external applications: Add, modify, and delete portlet producers and external applications used by WebCenter Spaces.
  
  
• Manage application resources: Manage application-level resources for WebCenter Spaces, such as page templates, skins, and task flows.
  
  
• Manage Spaces and Space templates: Take any Space temporarily offline and bring it back online; close down or reactivate any Space; delete any Space or template; publish or hide templates; import and export Spaces and templates.
  
  

In addition, the new Oracle WebCenter Analytics feature enables the WebCenter Spaces administrator to monitor usage and performance metrics for the whole site.
