7 Changes in MySQL Enterprise Backup 8.4.0 (2024-04-30, LTS Release)

MySQL Enterprise Backup 8.4.0 marks the start of a new series of LTS (Long Term Support) releases. MySQL Enterprise Backup 8.4.0 is recommended for use on production systems.

The 8.4.X LTS releases focus on security and bug fixes while the next Innovation series includes new features.

MySQL Enterprise Backup 8.4.0 supports MySQL Server 8.4 only. For earlier versions of MySQL, use the MySQL Enterprise Backup version with the same version number as the server.

The following list contains functionality changes and bug fixes for MySQL Enterprise Backup 8.4.0, in comparison to release 8.3.0.

Functionality Added or Changed

Because the keyring_file and keyring_encrypted_file plugins have been removed from MySQL Enterprise Server 8.4.0, when backups with encrypted InnoDB tables of a server using any keyring plugins are restored, the server is now going to start with component_keyring_encrypted_file, unless a keyring migration has been performed on the restored server. Bugs Fixed

Compression ratio was low for compressed backups created by release 8.0.34 and later, comparing with earlier versions of MySQL Enterprise Backup. (Bug #36021808)
Backup operations failed for a server that had the Performance Schema turned off. (Bug #34595073)
