Transferring Files to or from the Server
The file browser provides a graphical interface where you can transfer files between your local computer and the server.
What Do You Need?
- The Cockpit web console must be installed and accessible.
For details, see these topics: Install and Enable Cockpit and Log in to the Cockpit Web Console.
- The Cockpit Files package (
cockpit-files) must be installed. In the case where the File Browser module doesn't appear in the web console navigation panel, see Install and Manage Add-on Applications. - Access permissions enabling the task you want to perform:
- Uploading a file: your account must have read, write, and execute permissions for the directory where you want to upload a file.
- Downloading a file: your account must have read permission for the file you want to download.
Steps
Follow these instructions to transfer files between your local computer and the server using the file browser.
- In the Cockpit navigation pane, click File browser.
- Navigate to the directory where you want to make a file transfer.
- Perform one of the following operations to transfer files:
Operation Steps Upload a file to the server - Click Upload.
- Browse your local computer, select the file you want to upload, then click Open.
Download a file from the server - Right-click the file you want to download, then click Download.
