Infrastructure Services
The following features, enhancements, and changes related to infrastructure services are introduced in this Oracle Linux 9 release.
chrony Updated to Version 4.5
The chrony packages are updated to version 4.5. Notable changes
include:

Added the AES-GCM-SIV cipher to shorten Network Time Security (NTS) cookies to avoid some length-specific blocking of Network Time Protocol (NTP).

Improved automatic NTP source replacement for unreachable NTP sources.

Logging of important changes made by command requests using the
chronyccommand. -
Periodic refreshes of NTP sources. The default refresh period is two weeks. You can disable refreshes by adding the
refresh 0configuration entry in thechrony.conffile. -
Improved logging of source selection failures and falsetickers.

Added the
hwtstimeoutdirective to configure timeout for late hardware transmit timestamps. -
Added the
chronyd-restrictedservice as an optional service for minimal client-only configurations so that thechronydservice can be started withoutrootprivileges. -
Fixed the
presendoption ininterleavedmode. -
Fixed reloading of modified sources from the
sourcedirdirectories.
linuxptp Updated to Version 4.2
linuxptp is an implementation of the Precision Time Protocol (PTP). The
linuxptp package is updated to version 4.2 to include the following
notable changes:

Multiple domain capability in the
phc2systool. -
Clock update and change notifications in the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) parent dataset.

Addition of the PTP Power Profile (IEEE C37.238-2011 and IEEE C37.238-2017).
