Apply a data flag to a question

Mark questions in a form as Not Applicable, Unknown or Not Done if you don't have an answer for these questions.

Data flags can't be added to required questions in a screening, randomization or dispensation visit. Instead, you can use data flags for every type of question, including question groups, as well as in repeating forms.

Tip:

You cannot complete the intended action if you add a data flag to a required question. Only after the visit action took place, you can add a data flag to an item (required or not).
  1. On the Home page, determine where to work. For more information, see Access study modes and pages.
  2. Along the top, make sure Subjects is selected.
  3. Filter your view based on several criteria. For more information, see Filter subjects in a study.
  4. In the table, locate the subject, and click the visit in the Next Visits column.
  5. If you don't know the answer to a question on the form, hover over that question.
  6. Click the menu icon to the right of the question, and from the drop-down select either one of these data flags:
    • Mark Not Done: Use this flag if the answer to a question can't be provided at the moment. For example, a subject can't be weighed during a visit, so a required question about their weight can be marked as Not Done to proceed with form completion.
    • Mark Not Applicable: Use this flag if the answer to a question isn't applicable at the moment. For example, a subject doesn't need its heart rate measured during this visit, so the answer to a BPM question isn't applicable during this visit.
    • Mark Unknown: Use this flag if the answer to a question is unknown at the moment. For example, a subject doesn't know their blood type and there's no way to determine that on the spot.

    Note:

If you want to update a data flag, you also need to mention a reason for the update, in the Reason for Change text field.
  7. Click Submit.
Despite not being answered, a question marked with a data flag can be left unanswered in the system. This allows you to complete the form and the visit.
