Enhanced way of clearing dynamic questions and forms

Site users can now easily clear dynamically-displayed questions, forms, repeating sections in a two-section form, and form associations included in the same visit with fewer manual steps.

If you complete a dynamically-displayed question (child question) in error and then need to update the determining question (parent question), you can do this in a much easier way. Previously, you had to first manually remove the data from all of the dynamically-displayed questions to update the answer of the determining question. Now, the user experience is easier and faster - once you attempt to clear a determining question, the system indicates which of its dynamically-displayed elements are automatically cleared and which ones you'll have to manually clear.

Note:

This enhancement applies to any type of dynamic question, dynamic form, dynamic section in a two-section form, and form associations included in the same visit as their determining question, except for dynamically-displayed questions that are frozen, locked, read-only, or hidden, as they need to be manually cleared. Clearing form associations only removes the link between the forms, the data already collected in the linked forms will not be impacted.

Caution:

While this enhancement applies to forms, dynamic sections in a two-section form, and form associations, too, for the sake of clarity and brevity the enhancements below are described referring to dynamic questions. Every behavior described below applies to all of the above-mentioned elements, as well.
Whether you want to update or clear a determining question, here's what you need to know:
  • Whenever you attempt to update a determining question's answer, a new dialog is displayed informing you that you're attempting to update data that would result in the clearing or hiding of certain questions in your form in the same visit. The dialog lists the impacted questions or forms. This dialog is displayed only if the dynamically-displayed questions were previously answered. If there is no answer associated with them, you are prompted directly to enter a reason for this change.
  • If there are any dynamically-displayed questions that are locked, frozen, hidden, or read-only associated with the determining question that you're trying to update, all of these questions that are not hidden to you are also displayed in the dialog.
  • If you want to clear answers for dynamically-displayed questions, besides being prompted to enter a reason for this change, the same dialog appears indicating that data will be cleared for these questions.
  • If the questions you are attempting to clear or update are also associated with future visits, the dialog indicates that you have to manually clear dynamically-displayed questions before updating the determining question.
  • If there are multiple layers of dynamically-displayed questions (for example, a child question can act as the determining parent question for other dynamic questions), then you must manually clear any "grandchildren" questions. For example, if you attempt to clear the answer for parent question A, the system could clear the answer to child question B. But if child question B has other dynamic questions determined by its answer (questions C and D), then you must first clear the answers for the granchildren questions (questions C and D). Only after that, will the dialog display the dynamically-displayed questions that are directly impacted by the given determining question (parent).
  • If you attempt to clear any dynamically-displayed questions that were previously signed or verified, those questions become unsigned and unverified.
  • All dynamically-displayed questions that are cleared are displayed, in the Answer & Visit History, with a status of Cleared-Dynamic hidden.

More information on this enhancement can be found in the Site User Guide after the Release Assessment Environment (RAE) upgrade.
