Managing Menu Item Availability
There are several ways to manage whether a menu item can be sold or not. The method used is determined by the business, and factors such as why a menu item is not available and who is making the change or from where—the enterprise or property. The following methods, which are set in the Enterprise Management Console’s (EMC) Menu Item Maintenance module, help you manage the availability of menu items for sale:
Menu Item Maintenance | Menu Item Master
Menu Item Master Availability Features | Description |
---|---|
Core |
When set, this option designates the menu item as a core item. Core items are those which the corporate office or franchisor requires to be sold. Core items cannot be disabled by Menu Item Master Effectivity Groups. See Menu Item Masters for more information. |
Disable |
Disabled items cannot be sold. Disabled items are not shown on Screen Lookups (SLUs), Number Lookups (NLUs), or Order Menu Item by Name screens. This setting overrides other availability settings such as Core and Menu Item Master Effectivity Group assignments. See Menu Item Masters for more information. |
Menu Item Master Effectivity Group |
The Menu Item Master Effectivity Group setting allows businesses to control when an item is sold through the start and end dates of the selected effectivity group. You can override the Menu Item Master Effectivity Group at lower levels of the hierarchy independently of the rest of the Menu Item Master. This lets districts or properties set effectivity differently than the effectivity applied elsewhere in the organization. The Effectivity Group selection list includes a Disable setting, allowing locations below the enterprise to disable non-core menu items. Deleting a Menu Item Master Effectivity Group You can edit Menu Item Master Effectivity Group assignments in form view of the Menu Item Master. You can also remove them or delete overrides from the current hierarchy level or the current level and below using Delete Master Effectivity from the context menu, which is accessible by right-clicking the row header in table view of Menu Item Maintenance. As table view supports multi-select, the Effectivity Group assignments can be easily cleared from multiple items throughout the hierarchy. |
Menu Item Maintenance | Menu Item Price Effectivity Group
Assigning an effectivity group to a Menu Item Price determines when that price is in effect. If an effectivity group is expired when the menu item is added to a check, the system uses the first available effective price for the item (if there is one). If no effective price exists, an error is returned stating that the price is not found unless option 8 - Allow Menu Items in the Class to be Non-Priced is enabled in the Menu Item Classes module. If option 8 is enabled, the menu item will be added to the check with no price.
