Workstation Connectivity
Connection Attempt
On startup, the location’s API workstation attempts to connect to STS Gen2. If this connection fails, it does not retry until the service host is restarted, which occurs either by restarting the Simphony POS application or by rebooting the workstation. For workstations running Simphony 19.9 or later, additional resiliency improvements have been implemented. The workstations and cloud components are now able to function during OIDC outages. Previously, if a power outage or workstation restart occurred while OIDC was unavailable, requests could not be processed. With these enhancements, the system continues to process requests even if OIDC is down during a restart.
Constant Ping Requests
If the connection is established when starting the Simphony service host, there are constant ping requests from the location to the Simphony enterprise to confirm the connection is still in place. There are also constant ping requests from the Simphony enterprise to the location to confirm the same. If the connection is dropped, an attempt to re-establish the connection is made by the Simphony enterprise and the location.
