Configure Major Group

A major group is a grouping of related menu items for reporting sales summaries. A major group is the highest level of the reporting structure for categorizing menu items. Major groups are considered the more general category of sales, while family groups are more specific.

A major group is usually a general category of similar menu items. Typical major groups are Food, Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Liquor, Beer, Wine, and Retail Merchandise.

You can use major groups when running the Major Group Sales Report on the workstation. Each major group also has a report group number associated with it. The report group numbers are used to view subtotals of major groups on reports. By using report groups, users can see sale subtotals.

  1. Select the Enterprise, click Configuration, and then click Major Groups.
  2. Click the Insert icon (This image shows the Insert icon.) on the toolbar.
  3. In the Insert Record dialog, enter the Record Name for the major group (for example, Food), and then click OK.
  4. Enter a number other than 0 (zero) in the Report Group field.

For example, you can enter 1 for the Food major group and enter 2 for the Non-Alcoholic Beverages major group. When you enter 0 (zero), the menu item does not appear on reports.

  5. Click Save.
