9 Order Channels and Types
Order channels and order types enable the system to determine how a transaction entered the business and where the consumer received the goods.
A transaction’s order channel indicates where the order was placed:
-
Online (website) order
-
Mobile app order
-
Drive thru
-
Dining room
-
Front counter
-
Delivery app
-
Phone in
A transaction’s order type determine where it was picked up or
consumed:
-
Dining room
-
Bar
-
Counter
-
Drive thru
-
Delivery app
-
Curbside
When used together, it is possible to differentiate between order
flows, such as:
-
Mobile app orders that were picked up in the drive thru
-
Mobile app orders that were picked up curbside
-
Mobile app orders that were picked up at the bar
-
Drive thru orders that were picked up in the drive thru
In addition to identifying a transaction’s origin and destination, these features can be used to configure the way in which the system processes the transaction—routing orders through the kitchen, formatting receipts and kitchen chits, and setting tax rates.
