Onboard Edge-Detected Devices

Onboard detected LAN and USB devices so that Oracle ECP can identify them as managed devices.

Oracle ECP can detect devices that connect to an edge node before those devices are onboarded into the device inventory. A detected device is considered unmanaged until it is onboarded into Oracle ECP. After onboarding, Oracle ECP can match the detected device to the onboarded device record, and the device appears on the Devices tab with its assigned device name.

If auto-blocking is enabled for the tenancy, unmanaged devices start as blocked when they connect to an edge node. Auto-blocking is set tenant-wide and is not configured from the Oracle ECP UI in this release. To enable or disable auto-blocking for a tenancy, contact Oracle Support.

Note:

A device appearing on the Devices tab does not replace onboarding. A device must still be onboarded with matching information before Oracle ECP treats it as managed.

Required Matching Information

The information required to match a detected device depends on the device type. Use the values shown on the edge node' Devices tab when onboarding the device.

For LAN devices, the MAC Address entered during onboarding must match the MAC address shown in the LAN devices inventory table. Oracle ECP uses the MAC address to match the detected LAN device to the onboarded device.

For USB devices, the Make and Model entered during onboarding must match the values shown in the USB devices inventory table. The Model value is case-sensitive. The Serial Number is optional.

Copy the values from the Devices tab when possible to avoid mismatches.

Onboarding Workflow for Edge-connected Devices

  1. Connect the LAN or USB device to the edge node.
  2. On the Edge Node Details page, select the Devices tab.
  3. Use the device type switcher to select one of the following device types:
    • LAN devices
    • USB devices
  4. Locate the detected device in the devices inventory table.
  5. Copy the required matching information from the devices inventory table for the device type:
    • For a LAN device, copy the MAC Address.
    • For a USB device, copy the Make & Model values. If available, you can also copy the Serial Number.
  6. Onboard the device using the copied matching information and the standard device onboarding procedure.
  7. Confirm that the device appears as a managed device in the Devices tab and that the device name appears in the devices inventory table.
