Automatic Subscription Plan Adjustments

For both cellular and satellite connectivity types, the system automatically adjusts subscription plan tiers based on monthly data usage. Subscription plan changes are evaluated monthly and take effect at the beginning of the following month. A subscription plan can be adjusted by only one tier at a time, either upward or downward.

For information on the latest subscriptions offered, see Device and Cloud Connector Subscriptions in What's New.

Note:

Billing is not generated for suspended tenants. As a result, automatic subscription plan adjustments do not take effect until the tenant is reactivated.

Automatic Tier Upgrades

If a user's monthly data usage exceeds the limit of their current subscription plan tier, the subscription is automatically upgraded by one tier for the following month.

The upgrade is applied regardless of how much the user exceeds the current tier limit. Only a single-tier upgrade is performed during each monthly evaluation cycle.

If the user is already subscribed to the highest available tier, no tier upgrade occurs when the usage limit is exceeded. Additional bandwidth charges or subscriptions may apply based on the subscription offering.

Example 1:

Current subscription plan: Managed Edge Device Cellular Small

Monthly data usage: 15 GB

Because the usage exceeds the limit of the Small tier, the subscription is upgraded to Managed Edge Device Cellular Medium effective at the beginning of the next month.

The next month's billing reflects the Managed Edge Device Cellular Medium subscription.

Example 2:

Current subscription plan: Managed Edge Device Cellular Medium

Monthly data usage: 45 GB

Because the usage exceeds the limit of the Medium tier, the subscription is upgraded to Managed Edge Device Cellular Large effective at the beginning of the next month.

Assuming next month's data usage is 45 GB again, the next month's billing reflects:
  • Managed Edge Device Cellular Large
  • Managed Edge Device Cellular Small (to cover the additional 5 GB above the Large tier limit of 40 GB)

Automatic Tier Downgrades

For downgrades, the system evaluates monthly data usage for the current month and the previous month.

If usage for both months is below the limit of the next lower subscription tier, the subscription is downgraded by one tier effective at the beginning of the following month.

Example 3

Current subscription plan: Managed Edge Device Cellular Medium

Data usage:
  • April 2026: 6 GB
  • May 2026: 7 GB
Because usage for both months is below the Small tier limit of 8 GB, the subscription is downgraded by one tier from Managed Edge Device Cellular Medium to Managed Edge Device Cellular Small effective June 1, 2026.

The June 2026 billing cycle reflects the Managed Edge Device Cellular Small subscription.
