8.3.14.2 Password Expiration for Remote Users

You can now configure password expiration for remote users that use access the Exadata RESTful service or use ExaCLI. On the Exadata server, you can set attributes to configure password expiration time and whether the user is allowed to remotely change an expired password. Additional attributes can be set to specify the length of the warning period before the password expires, and how long after the password expires before the user account is locked.

Note:

This feature applies only to remote users and does not apply to operating system users like celladmin or oracle.

If these attributes are set on the server, then when a user attempts to connect to an account with an expired password, one of two things happens:

  • If the server is configured to permit changing the password remotely, then the user is prompted to change the password immediately.
  • If the server does not allow changing the password remotely, then the user is presented with an error indicating the password is expired and they will need assistance in getting it changed.
