10.6.1 Oracle Exadata Database Machine Elastic Configurations

Elastic configurations allow Oracle Exadata Racks to have customer-defined combinations of database servers and Exadata Storage Servers. At least 2 database servers and 3 storage servers must be installed in the rack. The storage servers must all be the same type. Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5-2 Elastic Configurations and Oracle Exadata Database Machine X4-8 Elastic Configuration can have 2 to 19 database servers, 3 to 20 Exadata Storage Servers, or a combination of database servers and Exadata Storage Servers. Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack X5-2 Elastic Configurations can have 4 to 19 storage servers.

Elastic configurations allow Oracle Exadata Racks to have customer-defined combinations of database servers and Exadata Storage Servers. This allows the hardware configuration to be tailored to specific workloads such as Database In-Memory, OLTP, Data Warehousing, or Data Retention.

  • Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5-2 Elastic Configurations start with a quarter rack containing 2 database servers and 3 Exadata Storage Servers. Additional database and storage servers (High Capacity (HC) or Extreme Flash (EF)) can be added until the rack fills up or a rack maximum of 22 total servers is reached.

  • Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack X5-2 Elastic Configurations start with a quarter rack containing 4 Exadata Storage Servers. Additional storage servers (HC or EF) can be added to a total of 19 storage servers per rack.

  • Oracle Exadata Database Machine X4-8 Elastic Configurations start with a half rack containing 2 database server X4-8 8-socket servers and 3 Exadata Storage Servers. Up to 2 additional X4-8 8-socket servers can be added per rack. Up to 11 additional Exadata Storage Servers (HC or EF) can be added per rack.
