Oracle Exadata System Software release 26.1.0 introduces the Exascale Direct Volume Statistics utility (edvstat), which provides real-time statistics about Exascale Direct Volume (EDV).

The edvstat utility improves observability on EDV client systems and enables administrators to understand:

• How much read and write I/O is being performed on each EDV attachment.

• How read and write I/O is being serviced through disk, flash cache, XRMEM cache, and remote direct memory access (RDMA).

• How read and write I/O further breaks down into various categories, including:

  • Large and small I/O.

  • Total number of I/O operations.

  • Total amount of I/O performed.

  • Number of I/O operations each second.

  • Amount of I/O performed each second.

The edvstat utility is conceptually similar to the Linux iostat utility, providing periodic snapshots of I/O performance for each storage and cache device. Storage administrators can run edvstat on demand to view real-time I/O performance and use flexible filtering to identify top-consuming volumes and volume groups. The output can use an iostat-like format or JSON format. ExaWatcher also includes edvstat output in its log files.

Use this feature to easily observe factors affecting EDV performance, including cache hit rates, RDMA read throughput, queue times, and average transfer rates.
