Setting Up System Next Numbers

Access the Set Up Next Numbers by System form.

Next Number

Enter the number that the system will assign next. The system can use next numbers for voucher numbers, invoice numbers, journal entry numbers, address numbers, and so on. You must use the next number types that are already established (and located under the Use column) unless your company provides custom programming.

(Release 9.2 Update) To generate alphanumeric next number values for account IDs using Next Numbers program (P0002), you must set the system constant Use Alphanumeric Next Number (ALPNN) to Yes in the Work With EnterpriseOne System Control program (P99410). When you set ALPNN system constant to Yes, the system generates alphanumeric next number values for account IDs if the usage limit for numeric value is reached.

Alternatively, you can manually enter the starting series of alphanumeric account IDs in Next Numbers program (P0002) using these guidelines:

  • The length of the alphanumeric next number for account ID must be 8 characters.

  • Numbers should not precede alphabets.

For example, 1000000A, A1A000A0 are not allowed.

  • Special characters are not allowed.

Check Digit Used

Select to specify that the system add a number to the end of each next number that is assigned. For example, if you are using check digits and the next number is 2, the system will add a check digit such as 7, making the last two numbers 27. The Check Digit Used option provides a method for increasing numbers randomly to prevent the assignment of transposed numbers. In this example, the system would never assign next number 72 with check digits activated.

Note: (Release 9.2 Update) The Check Digit Used option is not available for account ID if you set Use Alphanumeric Next Number (ALPNN) system constant to Yes in the Work With EnterpriseOne System Control program (P99410).
