About Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ops Insights
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Ops Insights is an OCI native service that provides holistic insight into database and host resource utilization and capacity.
Operations Insights has changed its name and is now Ops Insights. This change is visible starting March 2024.
Ops Insights consists of integrated applications distributed in the following way:
- Overview
- Gen AI & Compute instance: Contains insights into hosts, OCI compute and GPU clusters
- Capacity Planning: Contains all capacity insights at the host and database levels
- Exadata Insights: Contains all Exadata related information, access to Exadata Warehouse and Exadata Explorer
- Database Insights: Contains all the different database performance insights
- Dashboards: Allows you to curate custom views using out of box widgets or customer saved searches
- Administration: Manage your Ops Insights resources and customize the service
These applications allow database administrators, DevOps, and IT executives to make critical decisions about their databases and hosts using historical and long term data.
With Ops Insights you can:
- Analyze resource usage of databases/hosts across the enterprise
- Forecast future demand for resources based on historical trends
- Compare SQL Performance across databases and identify common patterns
- Identify SQL performance trends across enterprise-wide databases
- Analyze AWR statistics for database performance, diagnostics, and tuning across a fleet of databases
- Create and receive weekly News Reports giving you breakdowns of new utilization highs, big utilization changes and inventory changes across your fleet of databases, hosts, and Exadata systems.
Demo Mode

Related Services
Ops Insights also provides direct access to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Database Management service, which lets you take advantage of its real-time database performance and management capability with a single click. For more information, see Accessing Related Services.
Supported Targets
For a complete list of Ops Insights supported targets and configurations see: Supported Configurations for Ops Insights.
Before You Begin
- Data collected and analyzed by Ops Insights Service will only be stored for the last 25 months from the current date.
- Data collected and analyzed by Ops Insights Service will be purged after 30 days once the Ops Insights Service is disabled on a resource.
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure applies throttling too many API requests to prevent accidental or abusive use of resources. If you make too many requests too quickly, you might see some succeed and others fail.
- Pricing does not depend on the actual amount of data stored.
- Stopping an Oracle Database or an MySQL Database System that has Ops Insights enabled has no effect on retention or visibility of historical data for that instance. The period during which the database resource was stopped will contain no data.
- If the data was not collected from the source databases or targets for some underlying reason then that period will contain no data for Ops Insights.
- Ops Insights Service also uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring Datapoints – Retrieval (Part# is B90926). You may get charged for it over and above the free limits offered by Oracle.

Core Calculation
- OCI Ops Insights for External and On Premise databases and hosts (B92890):
Host CPU Core per Hour = Number of Thread(s) per Core * Core(s) per socket * Number of Socket(s)
For example: Linux Host X86_642 with 2 threads per core, 6 cores per socket, and 1 socket.
The total number of cores would be: 2 (threads) * 6 (cores) * 1 (socket) = 12 Host CPU cores.
- OCI Ops Insights for External MySQL Database Systems:
Host CPU Core per Month = Number of Thread(s) per Core * Core(s) per socket * Number of Socket(s)* Days per month
For example: Linux Host X86_642 with 2 threads per core, 6 cores per socket, 1 socket, 30 days in the month.
The total number of cores would be: 2 (threads) * 6 (cores) * 1 (socket) * 30 (days) = 360 Host CPU cores.
- OCI Ops Insights for Autonomous Database basic (B96199):
The unit count billed is for the number OCPU or ECPU allocated to the Autonomous database. Auto-scaling does not impact Ops Insights pricing.
- OCI Ops Insights for Oracle Cloud Databases (B97140) and (B892889):
The unit count billed is for the number OCPU or ECPU allocated to the VM Cluster or the Database System (pending on the infrastructure type). Auto-scaling does not impact Ops Insights pricing.
- Cloud Exadata Databases:
The billing incurred is equal to the number of OCPUs or ECPUs allocated to the VM Clusters enabled for Ops Insights. CPUs not allocated to VM Clusters are not billed.
Duplication of Charges
For OCI databases (including Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, Exadata Database Machine, Exadata Database Service on Cloud@Customer, and Oracle Cloud Databases) with Hosts for Ops Insights enabled, an additional Host SKU payment is required.
On-premise Oracle databases have a unified SKU for both the database and host, generating a single billing charge.
