QuickDR

QuickDR provides a fast and efficient method for provisioning DR for your compute instance. QuickDR can either create a new, dedicated, Full Stack DR configuration for your compute instance, or you can add your compute instance to an existing configuration. You can also customize additional parameters for this DR configuration.

The QuickDR setup is launched when you click the Activate QuickDR option in the OCI console page for any compute instance.

Note

QuickDR can only provision DR for block storage and networking resources that the compute instance depends on. It cannot provision DR for file system and other resources. However, you can add DR for these resources after QuickDR creates a DR configuration. See Add Members to a Disaster Recovery Protection Group to learn more about how to add resources to a DR configuration.

You can customize the inputs for provisioning and configuration which overrides the default choices that Full Stack DR would normally use.

To configure disaster recovery using QuickDR, perform the following steps:

Select the type of configuration. The following options are available:
  • Set up a new DR Configuration: Select this option if you want to quickly create a new Full Stack DR configuration for your compute instance.
  • Update an existing DR Configuration: Select this option if you want to add your compute instance to an existing Full Stack DR configuration and customize this configuration.
To set up a new DR Configuration:
  1. If you select the Set up a new DR Configuration option, then the following options are displayed:
    • Name
    • Compartment
    • Peer region
      Note

All the options that are displayed after you select the Peer Region setting are optional. Full Stack DR selects the best default options for your instance if you do not want to customize these settings.
  2. After selecting the Peer region, the following options are displayed:
  3. In the Advanced options, the following options are displayed:
    • Settings: Enable this option by selecting Launch this instance in the same fault domain in the peer region
    • Destination: Select the Destination compartment (Optional) and the Destination placement. The following options are available for Destination placement:
      • Use the default OCI placement: Full Stack DR selects the location to launch the instance.
      • Run on dedicated VM host: A dedicated VM host enables you to host multiple VM instances which is not shared with other tenancies.
      • Use capacity reservation: A compute capacity reservation in the destination region used to launch this VM instance.
    • Tags: Specify the tag information for one or more tag namespaces. Select Add tag to specify tag information for another tag namespace.
  4. Select Create to create a new DR Configuration.
  5. Select Cancel to cancel the DR Configuration.

To update an existing DR Configuration:

  1. If you select the Update an existing DR Configuration option, then the following options are available:
  2. Select an existing DR protection group in your compartment.
  3. Select an existing Volume group using the dropdown. The boot and block volumes for your instance will be added to this selected volume group. If you do not select an existing Volume Group, a new volume group is created.
  4. Select Update to update the DR Configuration.
  5. Select Cancel to cancel the DR Configuration.
