Supported Compute Shapes and Sizes

Learn about the supported Compute chipsets, shapes, and hardware sizes for Kafka clusters in Streaming with Apache Kafka.

Supported Shapes

Streaming with Apache Kafka supports the following Compute service chipsets and shapes:

  • VM.Standard.x86.Generic
  • VM.Standard.E6.Flex (AMD)
  • VM.Standard.E5.Flex (AMD)
  • VM.Standard3.Flex (Intel)
  • VM.Standard.A1.Flex (Altra processor from Ampere)

For more information, see Compute Shapes.

For more information about selecting the broker shape when configuring a cluster, see Creating a Cluster and Updating a Cluster.

Cluster Node Sizes

The following table lists the hardware size requirements for the brokers that you can configure for Kafka clusters:

Cluster Node Hardware Size Requirements
Node Type Number of Nodes OCPU count Memory (GB) Storage (GB)
Broker
  • Development cluster: 1-30
  • Production cluster: 3-30
1-80 Computed as a multiplier, as follows:
  • ARM: 6 x OCPU count

For example, if the OCPU count is 5, then memory is 30 GB (6 x 5).

  • x86 Family: 8 x OCPU count
50 GB - 16 TB
