Managing Demand Signals
Manage demand plans for future capacity needs.
OCC Demand Signal enables you to plan and create future capacity requests for different resources in various namespaces (for the next few weeks/months/years). This helps OCI teams to plan and provide the required infrastructure. As a large customer, you can create a demand plan using the OCI Console, API or import resource details as a template in an Excel format.
You can perform the following demand signal management tasks:
- List the demand signals in the compartment
- Create a new demand signal
- Get a demand signal's details
- Edit a demand signal
- Move a demand signal to another compartment
- Tag a demand signal
- Submit a demand signal
- Export a demand signal
- Delete a demand signal
Use Case
Consider your workloads in the cloud to have an unpredictable resource (for example, Compute) demand. When you see a future demand in the next 6 months, you can communicate the capacity as a demand signal. On the other side, OCC analyses the demand and provides the needed resource capacity and infrastructure. This helps you to plan and prevent performance issues or outages during unpredictable workloads in the future.
How Demand Signal Works
- Customer creates a demand plan in 'Created' state.
- The demand signal request transitions to 'Submitted' state after you review and submit it.Note
The request transitions to 'Deleted' state if you delete the request in 'Created' or 'Submitted' state. - OCI team reviews the request and transitions it to 'In Progress' state.
- The request in 'In Progress' state transitions to 'Completed' state if all items are completed by Oracle.
- The request transitions to 'Rejected' state if OCI rejects the demand plan.
Demand Signal States
- CREATED - A demand signal by default that you created is in this state.
- SUBMITTED - A demand signal transitions to Submitted state from Created state after you submit the request.
- DELETED - A demand signal transitions to 'Deleted' state either from 'Created' or 'Submitted' state.
- IN_PROGRESS - A demand signal transitions to 'In Progress' state when OCI team starts working on the request. When a request is in 'In Progress' state, it's not eligible for deletion,
- REJECTED - A demand signal state transitions to 'Rejected' if OCI team declines the demand signal resource request.
- COMPLETED - A demand signal transitions to the 'Completed' state when all the demand signal resource items are completed by OCI team
